Overview:
I love teaching music, and started when I was twenty years old.  From 2005-2006, I studied guitar at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, before a hand injury forced me to move back to the Chicagoland area.  In 2009, I graduated from Prairie State College with a Liberal Arts Degree. I took music theory classes and 1 year of jazz band at Prairie State.  I graduated from Columbia College in 2015. I achieved a Bachelor of Music degree, with a focus in classical guitar performance. In 2014, I won a performance scholarship from the Columbia music department.  I'm very passionate about music and teaching, and I look forward to sharing that passion.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching in the South Suburbs of Chicago in 2003, at a store called Ancient Music.  Shortly after that, I started teaching at a store called Melody, before I took on students on my own.  I took a hiatus from teaching because of some physical problems until 2012, when I started teaching at a place called Down Home Guitars in Frankfort Il.  In 2015 I started teaching at the Beverly Arts Center. The BAC has afforded me the opportunity to teach classes of many different age groups, which has been an invaluable experience.
METHODS USED
My methods vary according to the student.  If the student is less than 12 years old, I like to use the Hal Leonard Method 1 book.  If the student is 12 or older, I may still use the Hal Leonard book, but I assess the students goals, and find out what they would like to learn.  Whatever style of music the student is interested in learning, I believe in teaching proper posture and sound technique.  For anyone interested in learning classical guitar, I recommend a book titled Pumping Nylon by Scott Tennant.
LESSON STYLE
The basis of my teaching style is transparency.  My aim is to be as clear as possible about what I expect from my students, and how they can improve.  I believe great technique is the proper foundation for any musician, and I will always give the students exercises along with songs that will help my students to develop proper technique.  Most of all, I try to make sure that my students have fun.  Music is supposed to be fun, so maintaining a sense of humor is a good thing in my opinion. I can teach fingerstyle or different picking techniques. I like to see my students problem solve on their own. I try to make sure they're setting goals with and understanding of how to achieve them.

Scott is a very nice teacher. He has a lot of patience with little Jack, even if Jack is not always quick to learn. We are very happy with Scott!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
