I'm in the process of completing my Doctoral Degree in Piano Performance with a cognate in Pedagogy. I began my studies when I was six in Orlando, Florida and music has become my life ever since. It was under her guidance, along with Dr. Michael Rickman, Professor Faina Lushtak and Dr Steven Spooner, that I received full scholarships and have placed in national and international competitions.
My goal is to not only gain the technique, stylistic understanding, and tools needed to perform on the piano at the highest level but to also develop a love of music. I've had many stellar students from Russia, Georgia, China, Japan, and The United States take lessons to earn degrees but also several who took lessons as a secondary instrument for the love of it. Many pursue other careers but still have the skills to accompany a choir for example, or learn piano in order to sing by developing their listening skills.
I plan to pass down the tools needed to play piano which is so important for any child's education. It teaches responsibility, accountability, balance, and enhances spatial, auditory, visual, memory, and reading abilities. To play the piano is a balancing act that is healthy for the brain. I've taught Medical students, PhD Psychology majors, Business Majors, and of course Piano Majors and Minors. At any rate, I thank you for the support you have shown. If you are interested in lessons please do not hesitate to contact Musika to get in touch with me.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days. I taught privately while attending Stetson University. There I helped develop secondary minors on developing their piano skills or to tutor those needing help in class piano. In 2012 I was offered a full Scholarship and assistantship to Tulane University where I taught piano minors. Primarily worked on standard classical repertoire, sightreading, technique, and theory.
In 2014 I was offered a full Scholarship and assistantship to The University of Kansas. I taught several class piano sections that was required of all music majors. I also taught both graduate and undergraduate secondary minors. My goal is to develop a love for music. Passion is what drives motivation. I encourage my students to enter in to competitions, win scholarships, develop their repertoire, play in ensembles or chamber music, travel to music festivals, participate in recitals, and be the best they can be. I’m always looking for talented or interested students. I teach all ages! Feel free to contact me and let’s begin you musical journey!
for beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard books. This communicates the basics of the instrument very well. I also incorporate scales and chords. After the student develops his or her reading, kinesthetic, technique, and ear I give them a standard classical piece. For Adults, I evaluate their level and goals at the lesson. I develop their scales, chords, arpeggios, reading, kinesthetic memory, theory, and performance aspects. I do my best to keep the lessons engaging and enjoyable.
My goal is to develop and motivate my students. I keep a file on every student to monitor their progress. I plan on their future far in advance with repertoire that expands their knowledge of music. Choosing the right repertoire depends on how much they love the piece and if they are ready to handle the challenges. By learning challenging repertoire one can see that other pieces are easier to play. Overcoming obstacles enables one to achieve their goals. When students do this it reminds me of how much I love what I do.
