ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Music Performance

Awards:

2010- Second Place in Salisbury University Classical Guitar Competition

Overview:

I am a classical guitar teacher who is looking to educate and inspire potential new students. I am classically trained and I have learned from some of the best musicians in the area (Dr. Zane Forshee of Peabody University and Matthew Dunlap of Peabody University). While I do have a strong classical guitar backround, I also have a deep love for other styles such as rock, pop, blues, etc and would love to teach any of these styles. I cater my lessons around my student's wants and needs. Looking forward to taking on any new students at any level!

EXPERIENCE

I have played guitar for about 11 years now ever since I was started high school. I taught and performed classic rock music and I played in various blues/rock bands around my hometown of Berlin, MD. I wanted to develop my skills even further and take my career to the next step so I learned classical guitar while in high school from a professor at Salisbury University and continued my studies with a graduate from Peabody. I was accepted into UMBC's music program and studied under Zane Forshee and Matthew Dunlap.

METHODS USED

I have various methods for different styles. For all students (classical and nonclassical), I will assess their abilites, skill level, and what their musical interests are. Beginning students will be given a list of hand picked lesson books and written notes based on each lesson focusing on technique, basic music theory and note reading, and learning how to play basic songs. Intermediate students will be given a list of lesson books based on their preferred playing style (Ex: Jazz-Hal Leonard Jazz Guitar). We will put emphasis on developing technique, speed, knowledge of music theory, phrasing, soloing, learning songs efficently. Advanced students will be given repetoire based on their skill level and playing style. We will develop complete understanding of proper technique, speed, extensive knowledge of music theory, learning how to incorporate different styles into your playing style, phrasing, soloing, and taking your music talent to the next level (recitals, further education, concerts).

LESSON STYLE

Inspiring new students to develop enthusiasm for music is incredible. I believe that every student learns in a different way and progresses at their own speed. I set attainable goals each week and give students the tools they need to be great even when they are not in the lesson space. By tailoring my lesson to the student's abilities and preferences, students learn to develop their own musical direction and appreciation. Breaking the boundaries of what a student thought possible is awe inspiring and for every student my goal is for them to feel the same limitless warmth and fulfillment of music that I experienced myself in my years of being a student.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
