Currently, I'm a nineteen-year old student at UCLA! I'm entering my second year come September, and will be majoring in both Piano Performance and Mechanical Engineering. I've played piano for about 15 years now, and have taught for around 6 years alongside my mother who is also a piano teacher. I've had the opportunity to perform all over the world, from Carnegie Hall to small cities in Italy and performing before some of the world's greatest artists. I love teaching, and I find it just as rewarding and valuable as performing. Students that I've taught have all improved immensely from my tutelage, and I will be sure to cater my skills and knowledge to your needs.
I love teaching because it teaches me more than I can ever learn from a piece of music. Seeing my student grow as a musician and as his/her own individual character/personality. I've taught students as young as 3 to college graduates who simply want to get some pieces under their fingers. I've also taught masterclasses to my mom's students and to students at UCLA, and I find that all of us connect in some way musically as we all love and cherish the same composers whose music we still play today. I want to be that teacher to inspire your love for the piano and for music in general!
I like to always start off by having the student play the piece that we've been working on for the past few weeks to check on his/her progress and to address any needs or changes we need to make. I also work with the student on his/her scales and building the foundation needed to play more technically challenging pieces. I find it very important to work on technique as many players nowadays often struggle with more difficult pieces and do not execute certain sections as smoothly due to a lack of attention during his/her early stages in building up the foundation and technique. I will then begin to give the student particular pieces I find best suited to his/her abilities, and will always choose the one the student finds the most interesting.
No matter what skill level the student is at, I want to always make sure that the student is always engaged and interested in the repertoire! I find that more important than anything else, as I want to build that passion within each and every student to be able to not only play piano, but to love and cherish its history. I want to develop a personal connection with each student I teach, and cooperate with whatever needs they may have. Overall, I am more than excited to be teaching you and would love if you would choose me as your teacher! :)
