Overview:
Hi! My name is Sean. I've been teaching saxophone lessons for about eight years now. I am highly trained & I'm working on my doctorate in saxophone currently at the University of Colorado Boulder. I play in various situations including rock bands, classical ensembles, jazz ensembles, and even worship ensembles. I have played on some big stages including playing for his Royal Highness Prince Harry of England. Students who study with me will have the opportunity to learn various styles of music as well as all of the fundamentals. My goal with every student is that they learn to enjoy playing the saxophone. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience began when I started giving lessons in my freshman year of college 10 years ago. I was part of the school of music's community teaching program, where I taught lessons to mostly children. Since that time I have taught in-home lessons and home studio lessons. When I teach, I try to help students discover their passion for the instrument. I structure lessons in a way that helps students enjoy what they do. It's not worth it if you're not having fun doing this! Students who have worked with me have found success in their school auditions as well as auditions for honor ensembles. My goal is to keep students motivated and loving what they do. I welcome new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I always start with the Essential Elements book 1. I have found that the combination of foundational teaching and songs that accompany what was just discussed helps students feel like they are applying what they have learned to something the can show off to people to people around them. Once they move past that, I try to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their level. This helps prepare them for future solo recitals. For adult students, I try to get an understanding of what they want to learn and try to guide my teaching to help them achieve what they want to learn. I find with students of any age, if they are interested in what they are learning, they will always achieve much more!
LESSON STYLE
I love watching students find their love for music. It's so amazing to see them develop into into fine musicians who can communicate through the power of music. I believe it is important for students to set weekly goals as well as long term goals that they can achieve. I find that when you set goals that are achievable it helps motivate you to get better. As a teacher, I want to encourage every student to reach their goals and push past their limitations. As I learn more about a student, I can then tailor my lessons to help encourage students better. My goal as a teacher is to help every student achieve their goals and aspirations.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
