For beginning students who have never touched music in their lives (mostly children), I start out with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book of their chosen instrument. From there, we learn how to read music, play in time, and play the instrument itself. Once the student feels comfortable with the practices in the book, I move on to introduce solo repertoire to prepare for a recital. Of course, if they are in their school band, we will focus on perfecting their given band music. Read More

The most important first step is to have a conversation about what the student's goals are. Together we can come up with a game plan to achieve these goals! For beginning students, we will start by working through a beginner's method book, but I will supplement with my own materials. My first priority is to get the student playing music that they enjoy as early as possible! I will come prepared to every lesson with an individualized lesson plan, assignments, music that are tailored to each student's goals! Read More

I have also taught general music in groups of 15-20 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade for three years, as well as another three years at the American School of El Salvador as band and combo professor.
