When I teach, I emphasis consistent practice along with the enjoyment of the music my students are learning. Ages 5 to 10, I focus more on memorization of skills and hand coordination, over an understanding of theory. Ages 10 to 14, we focus on theory and mastery of skills. The reward of teaching is seeing a student progress and gain the skills needed to propel themselves forward musically. I work hard to help students develop and cultivate their passion for music and playing music well for others. Nothing is more important in music than finding love and joy for playing one's instrument. I don't believe there is nothing is better than having a student who has achieved a goal. So it is so important for me that my student progress at a rate that is fun, yet challenging. I believe goals should be realistic and tangible. We should discuss plans together on what kind of player they want to be. Then I tailor their lessons to them.
