My teaching experience starts when I was in high school. I taught private lessons as well as the lead instructor in our percussion class granted by the director. When I was in high school, I wrote to percussion scores for our marching shows. In my senior year, I was picked up by a musical touring group, and I was able to play drum set with professionals. After high school, I went to college and participated in wind bands, percussion ensembles, operas, and chamber ensembles. Read More

I believe that there is no one method you can use for every student. Method books can be useful but I try not to rely on them because I always found them boring if overused. I try to build lessons around styles of music that the student is interested in. It's always a balancing act trying to find the music for each student. Some of my primary values are equality and mental health, so I plan to offer them opportunities that fit within their needs. Read More

Fundamentals will still be a major part of every lesson even after the student has grasp them. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

For every student, no matter the age, I first ask what they want to gain from this class/lesson. Once that has been determined, I make sure the student understands basic fundamentals of music using the Suzuki method, or the Feierabend method, depending on how old the student is. Taking into account what the student wants to achieve in lessons, I will then introduce music to them that will help them achieve their musical goals. Read More
