I am extremely passionate about music and have been driven my whole life, so I show my passion in my teaching by my exuberant and fun teaching style. I like to focus on long term and short term projects to build confidence in a variety of ways. I expect regular practice if not daily, and I ask questions during lessons to stimulate critical thinking. I believe that one of the most important things a musician can do is to find and develop their own voice on their instrument. Listening to the greats like Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Jimi Hendrix, and Chick Corea illustrate how a unique voice can manifest itself and make the music so much more powerful. I believe that there is no one method you can use for every student. Method books can be useful but I try not to rely on them because I always found them boring if overused. I try to build lessons around styles of music that the student is interested in. It's always a balancing act trying to find the music for each student. The trick is to find music that is challenging enough for them to learn from playing it, interesting enough for them to want to pick their instrument up and practice, but not too challenging that they'll get frustrated with it.
