I was invited to be an instructor in 2008 and started after I completed my first pedagogy class in Suzuki Violin with the Jonesboro Suzuki Institute in Arkansas in August of 2010. I am currently teaching both children and adults virtually as they all live more than 100 miles away. These three students have been with me for more than 5 years, including 1 adult. My official experience as a teacher began during my college years in a community school. I would teach mainly young beginners for a couple of years. Later, I only expanded my interest in teaching towards private lessons, as I found fundamental conflicts with my philosophy and the way our culture understands music learning. I try to share my love for many other areas in a way the student finds little glimpses of direction, so they realize that learning an instrument is a way to interact with the Real that underlies what we understand as education. I am extremely passionate about music and have been driven my whole life, so I show my passion in my teaching by my exuberant and fun teaching style. I like to focus on long term and short term projects to build confidence in a variety of ways. I expect regular practice if not daily, and I ask questions during lessons to stimulate critical thinking. I am very encouraging, but critique when necessary and isolate a problem to address it quickly to build confidence in the student. Read More
