My official experience as a teacher began during my college years in a community school. I would teach mainly young beginners for a couple of years. Later, I only expanded my interest in teaching towards private lessons, as I found fundamental conflicts with my philosophy and the way our culture understands music learning. I try to share my love for many other areas in a way the student finds little glimpses of direction, so they realize that learning an instrument is a way to interact with the Real that underlies what we understand as education. For beginner students, they learn through the Suzuki method, parents are to take notes during lessons so that they can effectively help their child at home. For parents of children ages 2-4, the parent is encouraged to learn the violin as well. This is so that the Suzuki Triangle works effectively. Parents play a key role in every aspect of their child's learning and development of their violin skills. After the student has completed Suzuki Violin School book 1, I then add supplemental music for them to learn and if the student is older, they are encouraged to choose styles, genres, etc. Read More

I have been labeled a passionate, patient, and fun instructor. I focus on goal driven lessons entailing theory, ear training, repertoire, technique, and history. I studied ethnomusicology and Japanese music in graduate school, so my teaching style is inclusive and diverse. I have been performing in orchestra since the age of 15 and have performed in ensembles such as band, world music, Latin music, jazz, electronic music, and more.
