I use the Suzuki Beginning books for cello and double bass students. For guitar and bass guitar, I use Hal Leornard's Essential Elements. The easy-to-understand and interactive nature of the Essential Elements books make them a great teaching tool. For piano students, I use the Czerny beginner etudes. My lesson plans usually include a warm-up, a review of last week's assignment to verify that the student has practiced, the main piece the student is playing, and usually something fun to sightread in the last 5 minutes of the lesson. My teaching style is completely focused on making music fun. I believe every person has innate ability to learn the fundamentals of an instrument, so working through the initial anxiety of learning a new skill is necessary. By letting the student set the pace and offering an array of modalities to tackle students' goals, we will create an environment in which the pure joy of music can shine. Each lesson will include warm-ups, goal-setting, and free expression, with a specific curriculum (either out of a book or customized) guiding us always. Read More

I have taught guitar for 25 plus years in a variety of settings, in students homes, private schools, studios, and colleges, I have also been teaching music production on Logic Pro X as well as Songwriting for the past 5 years. I like to make lessons fun and I focus on practicing technique and building chord vocabulary through learning songs with less focus on boring exercises and theory; unless of course the student is interested in that. For beginner students, I base my syllabus off of music education series such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, and other well known education series. It varies depending on the age and development of the student. I have a collection youtube-type internet tutorial videos that I keep handy for specific techniques and purposes. For instruments such as vocals, I find its important to teach students techniques of strengthening the voice while also learning proper vocal preservation. Read More
