I began teaching privately about four years ago, and since then I have taught for a variety of well established institutions like the British International School and the Chicago School of Music. I have also worked as a teaching and outreach artist with Sarasota Opera and Old Capitol Opera. I love working with beginners, because I believe that music is for everyone, and it is important to find the right avenue for each individual. Read More

I like students to learn their favorite songs while learning technique, such as scales and chords, as well as music theory. Read More
Instruments: Voice
For beginning students, I start with simple songs of a folk or pop nature taking into accounts the student's musical interests. I also teach basic music fundamentals including rhythms and sight-singing (the elements of reading music). For experienced students, I begin with accessing their level and choosing repertoire that is suitable for their voice type as well as interests. Overall, I focus on making lessons fun and engaging while encouraging students to learn the discipline of music practice which will only serve to help the student progress. Read More

My lessons are pretty straight forward. We begin with understanding body posture and alignment for singing. Once in good posture, I encourage breath flow while maintaining good alignment. A good exercise for breath control and release is taking a deep breath in 10 seconds, holding the expansion or suspension for 10 seconds and then releasing (NOT PUSHING) the breath in an s sound, all while maintaining a tall and expanded posture. Next, we move on to scales from the middle of the voice to the lowest notes to get the voice warmed up. Read More

My lessons are student driven. I typically assign some technique, repertoire, and theory assignments each week. I often try to include a “student challenge” most weeks in order to gauge how much a student is understanding during the lessons. I modify my styles based on what seems most effective for the student. Sometimes a student really needs 5 pieces to work on over a longer stretch of time. Other times, a student can only reasonably work on one piece for the week. Read More
