Like a said I teach as the student needs. But always fun and encouraging. Some of my best teachers are still my friends to this day so I hope to be the kind of teacher some one will always be an inspiration. My approach to teaching is personal, flexible, and student-centered. I will start by finding out what the student knows already, and what the student wants to know. What kinds of music do they want to play, and why? (For instance: for fun; accompanying themselves singing; performing in front of people; becoming professional.) While I believe that classical training is beneficial to develop strong technique, I also know that we can help you to develop a solid technical foundation through all styles of singing including pop, jazz, musical theatre and folk. For your first lesson we will discuss your desires and goals, and from there I will provide sheet music, handouts, and other supplemental materials. Read More

For prospective voice students under age 12, I'll primarily work with them on ear training and music theory basics, as well as simple songs. Protecting vocal health is important, and under age 12, it can be difficult to sing with good technique, as the vocal chords aren't developed quite yet! For older students, we will begin with warmups, exercises, and songs that will encourage good technique, but always keeping in mind what the student wants to work on. Read More
