I start my younger students with Alfred's Basic Piano Library Prep Course For The Young Beginner. This series incorporates basic music theory in each lesson which is imperative for success on the piano. The lessons use graphics, language and examples that children can easily grasp, and are lots of fun to read and play. As their skills improve, I play an accompaniment for encouragement and fun. For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. My teaching experience really doesnt go back far. I just been hired locally around my neighborhood to teach their kids piano and voice. My taking style though is very straight to the point and either easy to understand for example if I were to teach a student C major scale I would teach them the proper hand positions first then I would teach them the notes of the scale and how they correlate to the piano.
