I started teaching lessons when I was 18 at a music business and taught there between 3 to 5 hours a week for about 5 years. For the past 5 years I have been teaching at IU. I have taught many different styles from classical to jazz to rock, etc. and have also watched many great teachers and tried to learn from their methods. The first thing to learn as a bass player is developing a good technique. The bass is a large instrument with big stings and can be tough to play. Many develop bad habits. Teaching proper technique can eliminate bad habits, and facilate proper playing. While teaching technique, learning note, the fingerboard, and music theory is the next step. Learning to read music is very important as well.
