Teaching music is my life's passion. I followed that passion to earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Evansville in 2011. Since then I have been teaching students of all ages and levels. Since earning my degree I have performed on stages across the country in pit orchestras, bands, choirs, opera performances and as a solo artist on various instruments including the voice. I am an active musician and am constantly exploring new music to teach and share with my students. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my senior year of high school 10 years ago. My mother is a teacher, and got me my first job tutoring math for one of her teacher's assistants. During the first couple of years, I had a number of math and music students and learned the benefit of tailoring my teaching methods to the individual rather than using a one size fits all teaching approach. I try to listen to the student's interests and skills so that I can develop a practice routine that is both fun and beneficial for them specifically. I also have found that the best teachers that I have had, exposed me to music that I would have never discovered on my own. I believe that students should both enjoy their lessons and their practice. I also firmly encourage them to perform and create their own original projects so that they are really experiencing and benefiting from their newly learned strengths. Read More

I like to use several methods in my lessons. I use a lesson book, Essential Elements for Strings for violin and viola students and Alfred books for piano students. In addition to these, I supplement with song books, concertos, etudes, scales, and songs the students want to learn to play. I also teach ear training where I'll play something and then have the students play it back to me. I think it's essential to not only learn to read music, but to play by ear, AND improvise! Read More

My main music philosophy is to teach sound before sight: teach students to hear the music, and then read the notation. For beginners, I want them to become well acquainted with their instrument so I begin with the basic fundamentals, and then teach some traditional tunes before moving on to reading music. For students who can already read music, I like to work on sight-reading as well as finding solo repertoire that can be performed at recitals. Read More
