My teaching experience dates back to my time at Washburn University, where I have taught several students. Now I teach at Missouri State University as a part of my assistantship. I encourage regular practice and motivation for students to see results. I have found that allowing students to express how they feel about the songs they sing really helps them become better performers. Also, I encourage watching masterclasses over their songs they have and reading up on the opera or show their song is in. Read More

nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace, so i encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. setting and hitting realistic goals drives motivation and acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more, and keeps the learning process new and exciting etc. by trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs, while the student remains comfortable and confident in his/her abilities etc. Read More

I have been teaching for over 3 years in various positions of choir and private vocal lessons. I have taught private voice lessons for over 2 years. The focus of my teaching is allowing a free and resonant sound to be the guiding force in a student's vocal development. I implement pedagogical techniques in my teaching, as I have a vocal pedagogy background. I like the students to enjoy each piece of music they are working on, either because it provides them with a challenge or because of an emotional response they get from singing the piece. Read More

I had my first private students after I obtained my degree, and gained new students when I taught in western Kansas. I love helping students love music and it is important that I am encouraging them to continue their musical education and not hendering them. Students need to have fun! With both modern and classical instruction in any instrument or while singing, students will be more motivated to practice on a regular schedule and if they have any questions, they can contact me. When I really take a deep look at what is happening when I teach, I realize that in the end the student is teaching him/herself. I'm merely responding to a musical moment -- with a set of ears that I trust, and that happen to be attached to my body -- in a way that makes sense to the vast musical experience I have. "How can this be more beautiful?" "How can this be more secure?" "How can I say a thing to the student that clicks in her/his mind, such that they figure out for themselves how to make this more beautiful/secure/free/awesome/spine-tingling. Read More
