My teaching experience goes back 9 years. Before I moved to Chicago for school, I lived with my parents in Springfield, IL and taught private drum lessons out of their basement. Although I did not have a lot of experience teaching, I realized how rewarding it was to see a student learnand gain confidence on their instrument. It was something that I wanted to do more and saw a future in teaching. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
I like to focus my lessons based on the needs of the student. For beginener students (younger) I like to start out by playing and teaching them simple songs and melodies that will be easy to remeber and that will start to develop the fundamental knowledge of the guitar. From this point it will easier to learn more songs, creating a repetoire, and gradually move to more complicated music. For older or intermediate students I like to focus on music that they are persoanlly interested in and build the lessons from there. Read More

I begin with the fundamentals of music theory that you will need to begin playing your instrument, and then I like to get straight into learning songs as quickly as possible. The student may choose what songs to learn (recommended) or I can make suggestions. You will learn a range of skills including tuning, instrument care, song struture, chords, soloing, and MUCH MORE. My goal is for you not just to learn to play certain notes or chords, but also understand why that note or chord fits where it does. Read More

For Piano, I use several method books, including the Thompson Method, Shaum, Alfred, and Bastien. For Guitar I use Hal Leanard, Mel Bay, and several others. I also use interactive software of various kinds. And for Jazz, Blues and Rock improvisation, I use Band in a Box to provide backing tracks for the purpose of practicing improv over chord progressions. Band in a Box allows the student to simulate the experience of playing with a band in various styles and genres, with the possibility of change the chord progression and also changing the key and tempo.
