Each student is unique, therefore listening and getting to the individual as well as their skill is critical. The first lesson or two may be spent just getting to know each other and give some minor music skill testing to help me understand skill level. My method for teaching is usually based mainly on repertoire. I use a series of books called the Neil A. KJOS Piano Library. In every lesson we will work on and practice two to four pieces of music from different genres and time periods. For beginner students, we will use elements in the music to learn theory and technique.
