Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I teach beginning students both by rote and through reading. We use standard Suzuki books for repertoire and method books such as Wohlfahrt, Mazaz, and Sevcik. Very young students begin on Sassmanshaus since it is very engaging as well as well written. However if there is a specific book a student wants to learn from (such as a book from school or a specific style such as country or fiddle) then I am more than willing to teach from that. Read More

I have taught young students of all ages in one-on-one settings in my studio, as well as in classroom settings as a group strings teacher and as an orchestra and general music teacher at a K-8 charter school. For beginning students who are children, I like to use the Suzuki violin method. While they beginning to show progress Ill begin to include F. Mazas Melodios and Progessive Studies and the Wohlfahrt Studies combined with appropriate solo repertoire. For adults, I prefer to find out what their interest is focus on and I guide my instruction acording to this. I also like to include some Alexander Technique exercises to help my students manage their posture and to prevent getting hurt with the instruments position. Read More
