For beginning students, children and adults, I start out with my own material that I have created over the past five years. I use it to start technique, note reading, and rhythm. Once the student completes the material, I move them to Suzuki books, etudes, and other pieces. I like to get student input when choosing music. My teaching experience dates back to my student teaching experience in 1979 from Truman State University. From Truman State University I went on to teach public school Orchestra in Helena, Montana, Kansas City, Missouri area, Marshall, Missouri, Kirksville, Missouri, and finally to Fulton, Missouri. I have a total teaching experience of 37 years in both the public school setting and in my private studio. A St. Louis native, I have been studying the violin/viola since I was 9 years old. I am an enthusiastic and caring instructor who enjoys working with students and watching them grow. Currently I am in my senior year at UMSL, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Music Education. I currently serve as the principal viola in my school's orchestra, the UMSL Symphony Orchestra. The methods I use for teaching primarly depends on the students' style of learning and the level that they are at musically.  For beginning students I use a lot of visual and aural techniques and for more advanced students I build on what they arleady know and challenge them to go further.  I am also familiar with the suzuki method and pop music styles.
