It is important that each student progress at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and expectations. Acknowledging any and all accomplishments are key to fueling the students desire to learn more. My students can expect to receive homework and practice goals after each lesson. I want to find what inspires my students so I will always tailor my instruction to their wants and desires. During each lesson, we will start with warming up through scales and stretching and then moving to our practice goals for the week, through the practice goals we can determine what next weeks lesson should look like and what the student can focus on outside of their lesson. I am an energetic, fun-loving instructor with an excellent musical intuition and a passion for motivating students to appreciate the many extra-musical perspectives that music brings to the table. I am also a firm believer in technology as a tool to enhance music, and incorporate it into my work with notation software and performative technology (HCI). Read More

You must spend time and practice in order to see improvements. Developing a weekly practice chart is something I like to implement in my lessons. I believe being my funny, goofy self helps students to feel more comfortable and open in this supportive relationship. Read More

I incorporate all three of these into each lesson so the student can walk away feeling like she has gotten closer to her instrument! For young students, I follow a Suzuki approach where a parent or guardian plays a vital role in practicing and musical development. I use the Suzuki books, a reliable source for musical progress, as well as some American fiddlin' tunes from the O'Connor Method Books. Read More

I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Even if they did not come to a lesson prepared, being able to see growth in the small amount of time I'm with them is enough for me. I understand that every student progresses at their own pace, so I work with them and their parents to make sure that realistic goals are set and written down to hold the student, parent, and myself to this growth plan.
