It is important that each student progress at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and expectations. Acknowledging any and all accomplishments are key to fueling the students desire to learn more. My students can expect to receive homework and practice goals after each lesson. I want to find what inspires my students so I will always tailor my instruction to their wants and desires. During each lesson, we will start with warming up through scales and stretching and then moving to our practice goals for the week, through the practice goals we can determine what next weeks lesson should look like and what the student can focus on outside of their lesson. Every student follows the reoccurring desire to make music for as long as it takes them before they actually begin to find their own musical voice. Because of this, my teaching style is largely based on helping students make the music that inspires them. I began teaching private lessons during my time at Converse College, over 10 years ago. I taught at the Lawson Academy of the Arts in Spartanburg, SC from 2014-2016, and privately out of my home for the past 7 years. I have also led numerous college and high school level violin sectional rehearsals, including violin sectionals for the Senior High School Orchestra at UNCG Summer Music Camp in 2019, where I was a counselor and rehearsal assistant, the UNCG Symphony Orchestra, and the Converse Symphony Orchestra, and working as a regular sectional coach with the Triangle Youth Symphony. Having grown up the second oldest of five siblings, I understand how to relate to other people and work with them even in difficult situations. I think teaching the methods- the scales techniques in music, the grammar and figures of speech in language is so helpful, because as well as not missing things out, the student is given a logical way of perceiving the subject which s/he can slot into her brain.
