I became the guitar studies director at the Bronx House Music School (during this period) and later became the Music School Director there, and the Music Director of the Mercy College Satellite branch (which offered college level music lessons and classes at the Bronx House Music School). While pursuing my Graduate Studies at MSM, I was a Special Tutor for both entrance and exit exams (history and theory) for the Doctoral Program; and taught guitar history literature, guitar ensemble, and guitar pedagogy (as a graduate assistant). (I also was employed there as editor-in-chief of the college newspaper, and thesis proof-reader editor for DMA theses (generally for foreign studentsalthough my skills therein were also sought by students at Juilliard, NYU, Union Theological Seminary, and Jewish Theological Seminary.) Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. I make sure each student I work with knows what elements to include in their practice, how to learn a piece of music from scratch, and how to break things down into manageable, learnable chunks.
