I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. Determining the range of an individuals learning styles and how they operate allows me to better gauge their needs and accomplishments. whether I should be quite literal, or use analogies, metaphors and similes. Knowing a students aural depth helps me guide listening. An idea of kinetic aptitude and tendencies helps me construct the "procedural memory" of playing efficiently.
