While at ONU, I was a member of the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, and Woodwind Ensemble. I was given opportunities to perform in these various ensembles on clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and flute. I served as the principal clarinet of the Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, Instrumental Music Librarian, Wind Orchestra Ensemble Manager, and Wind Orchestra Assistant Conductor. For beginners, I favor the Rubank methods. Beginning with intermediate to advanced students, I pull from many different methods and collections, and decide on repertoire based on a custom plan for the student's specific progress. In creating this plan, I select assignments and pieces depending on what the student is drawn to, what they wish to accomplish, and what areas of their playing need more focused work. I always try to look for repertoire that the student can polish in time for an audition/performance/jury, while also serving as a whetting stone for their skills. Read More
