For my beginning guitar students, we begin with basic chords and simple melodies to develop motor function, finger strength/dexterity, and calluses on the fingertips. After that I start teaching them how to read music and progress onto harder pieces. During this time, I also incorporate teaching the student a song of their own choosing in order to keep them engaged and excited about learning the play music. I have various methods of teaching, all tailored to each students' strengths.
