I love to watch my students become better versions of themselves through the medium of music. I never want my students to be satisfied with reaching a destination on their goal charts. I want my students to become so infatuated with the journey, that they will seek to continue to look for new experiences to explore. I create this environment by keeping lessons diverse and dynamic. I make each student compile a list of goals for themselves, 3 big goals, 5 goals the lead to each of the 3 big goals, 10 goals to lead to each of the 5 goals, and finally, daily goals that will help us accomplish the 10 goals. Many students give up simply because they don't know how to practice, but I hope to show them how easy it is to enjoy your practicing. Once a student understands and can see the fruits of their labor, it's very easy for them to push themselves. I want to give a student the opportunity to do that, but I can't force them to practice. I start every student off the with basics, no matter what age. Fundamentals are a crucial skill that have to be correct if you plan to play great. We will work simple scales, articulations, and etudes to make sure the student is understanding the correct way to play which will lead to learning harder concepts easier and quicker. My teaching experience began in 2006. During my college years I taught trombone to fellow students and later as a college instructor and high school band director, taught young adults. My experience as an elementary school teacher has rewarded me with skills to work with younger children. I now work with seasoned musicians as a mentor and coach. I have fun too.
