I normally use my own material I'll bring to lessons. I'll usually create a lesson plan that'll focus on all basic fundamentals that are goal-focused, while incorporating songs that'll help reinforce those mechanics! I like to keep lessons fun by bringing music that students enjoy. I also try to encourage and motivate my students to do that from an artistic point of view. I am happy to teach all styles of music from classical to RB guitar. However, what I get most excited about as a teacher is helping students understand the fundamental logic of music. I want to help my students know what they are hearing when they listen to music and know how to play what they are hearing. In every lesson, I will check in with the student to see how they are progressing and will address any issues that have arisen during their practice sessions. I try very hard to tune into the individual student's learning style and to figure out the best way to communicate my philosophy. I like to start with an example from whatever musical style from which the student wishes to learn and from there I will look to derive a greater understanding of how and why the music works the way that it does. I started teaching private lessons on trumpet when I was in High School. In college, I began teaching private lessons on euphonium/baritone. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education (BME), I taught 2 years in K-5 general music/JH-HS Choir and 7 years K-12 general music. At the end of the day, instead of training someone to be a drummer, I prefer to train someone to be a musician that happens to play the drums.
