Watching my students develop and grow as musicians is one of the greatest joys I have in life. I use positive encouragments while also challenging students to continually improve. Music making is not a race, so I allow students to develop naturally and at their own pace. I try to inspire, encourage, and motivate through leading by example. My favorite aspect of my first teacher was when he would play his instrument along with me. Read More

For beginning students, whether they are children or adults, I begin instruction with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements book for Clarinet. Once they have made their way through that book, I move onto the Rubank Beginner or Intermediate Method book, depending on how they have progressed. Around this time, I introduce my younger students to solo repertoire for clarinet. For adult students, I try to gauge their interest and instruct accordingly, whether they are performing in their church or community band, or simply playing for pleasure. Read More

for the beginner student, we will start off by going through things such as scales, arpeggios, and exercises to build a solid foundation. While doing this, I will have the student pick a song they like, whether it be pop, country, jazz, classical, and begin to learn it by ear to begin to develop solid aural recognition. Once the fundamentals are solid, we will move on to either working on a sonata or concerto or a transcription and a tune (depending on if you are a jazz student or classical). Read More

My passion is teaching. It's my profession, as well as my hobby (I am a Volunteer Sunday School Teacher). My main goal in music lessons is to make the experience enjoyable for the student -- I'm not very strict when it comes to progress. In my opinion, a student should genuinely enjoy playing their instrument because progress inevitably follows. I love to do risk-free trials because the student and the teacher need to have a certain rapport for the lessons to be fully effective. Read More

As an educator, I strive for patience with students making a good effort. I recognize that certain skill sets will take time to develop, and I make sure that all students are doing the right things as they practice. Between lessons, I set a small list of achievable skills and practices for students to do. These lists are tailored for each individual to grow every week. With each lesson, it is my hope that the students find the joy of music making, and develop a love of music in general that will last them their entire lives. Read More
