Instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet

Your musical growth is the most important thing. I try not to talk too much at our lessons. Most of the time I will show you what to do, help you learn how to do it and then let you practice the new skill(s) all week for our next lesson. Consistent effort is the key, both for you and for me. You'll need to practice and I need to keep things comfortable, challenging and enjoyable for you. Read More

Hello, my name is Brian and I am a woodwind (saxophone/clarinet/flute) instructor based in Minneapolis. I have studied music at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of North Texas, and during my collegiate tenure I took lessons on both classical and jazz saxophone, classical clarinet and classical flute, as well as having participated in a number of both classical and jazz ensembles. Since college, I have performed professionally in a wide variety of genres, including jazz, salsa/Afro-Cuban, pop/rock/top 40, gospel, folk, blues, funk, ska and musical theater. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Voice, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Ukulele, Recorder, French Horn, Tuba, Music, Keyboard

The most important parts of learning any instrument is reading music and posture/hand positions. On piano I typically use Faber's Piano Adventure series. I've found that this series teaches the fundamentals in a fun and easy way. On brass and woodwind instruments I would start a beginner with the Standard of Excellence series and supplement with the Rubank method books. With ukulele I like to start with Hal Leonard method books and then shift to Johnson's Ukulele Aerobics. Read More

Christopher M

Instruments: Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet

Due to the fact that I teach students with drastically different age and ability levels, lessons are catered to each individual student's needs. In general, I try to structure the lesson in such a way that it can serve as a blueprint for at-home practice. We will usually start with some kind of warm-up exercise, move to technical/flexibility development, followed by repertoire and etudes. I keep a shared document with all of the items discussed in each lesson as a record for the student and include suggested listening/ reading for the week. Read More

Jaimin M

Instruments: Saxophone, Clarinet

When I begin using written music I use the Accent on Achievement or Essential Elements method (I am also comfortable with other standard elementary methods and would be happy to use whatever method a student's band director is using), which is a good place to start whether or not the student already reads music. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
