For all students I'll be going over various ways to memorize any piece. I'll go over intervals, imperfect pitches, scale structure, chord progression, and how to apply all of it. I will start off with identifying notes in a scale, what they mean and how to use them. From there I'll go over rhythm and understanding time signatures. We will set realistic, attainable goals every week so the student has something to work towards and can actually see their own progress and want to continue getting better. I do believe learning to read music is a very necessary skill but that learning to use your ear is just as important, a good ear takes time to develop but is very attainable and I hope to help students use every way possible to better understand, love, and enjoy music. For students starting with more experience, or once a student moves past the Hal Leonard series, I like to offer custom lesson plans designed to fit the individual student's needs.
