For students who are beginners, my major focus is getting them used to the guitar. Comfortable holding the guitar, understanding the strings and notes, basic chords and an overall comfort with finger positioning. For those who may have some experience or are older, the focus is to speak about what their goals and interests are. This will help guide the teaching style as we progress. Regardless, my main focus with every student is to have fun and ensuring the student is encouraged and motivated to continue coming back. Read More

I'm tired of voice teachers only teaching classical music, especially when a student says they want something different. Classical music is important, especially in the music sphere, but singing and playing are not all about that. Read More

The great thing about private one-on-one lessons is the individualized pace and learning style. I like to understand the most effective ways my student learns. Some students need to be immersing themselves in exercises that allow them to create and experience the music through a personal lens. Some students prefer to hone in on the technical work and theory. Both are important skills for a well-rounded player but depending on the student's personality they may be more inclined toward one or the other. Read More
