I approach teaching with starting with a solid foundation for beginners. Starting each lesson with some warm-up exercises to help develop the dexterity and coordination playing the guitar demands. Then we start learning chord structure and scales, starting with the major and minors. For guitarists I typically like to start by learning techniques and building strength in their fingers before we move into theoretical concepts.
