I like to use a combination of methods and method books. For a beginning band student I would use Standard Of Excellence of Essential Elements. For guitar students I like to use a combination of methods, depending on the student. I like to use the Old Town School's book for their first songs or Essential Elements for guitar. Music, at its most basic, should be fun, and I try to impart that to my students. Lessons with me involve jokes, fun music, and taking our music making to the extreme. In addition, I strive to teach music as a language; learning it both aurally and visually, developing an ear for music and self-evaluation while learning to read the notes on the page.
