For beginning students on violin we start with many techniques found in the Suzuki method. From there, we jump into different styles of music while still focusing on developing solid technical foundations for the student. Once we move into standard repertoire the lessons begin to change based on what the student needs. I am a firm believer in consistent practice. I like to use Essential Elements for beginners, especially children. It's also helpful to use if the children are in an orchestra. I also like to work with the Suzuki method for those who are interested in doing it. It's important that I help beginners in how to get the best resonance and basic techniques to build confidence for performance or specific goal they have in mind. Students do not progress or progress very slowly when they do not have a desire to do so. Therefore, the students interests and desires are always paramount. Goals are set by the student, and together we make a plan to achieve those goals. I see myself not only as a teacher, but also a mentor.
