My experience teaching goes back to high school. I began teaching over 10 years ago, and have been teaching students in my home studio ever since! I enjoy teaching students of all ages and all levels. I have experience teaching students with disabilities as well, and I can accommodate those needs. I approach each student a little differently, since the needs vary from student to student. Students do not progress or progress very slowly when they do not have a desire to do so. Therefore, the students interests and desires are always paramount. Goals are set by the student, and together we make a plan to achieve those goals. I see myself not only as a teacher, but also a mentor. I have fun with my students. They learn to play songs that they want to play, and I provide theoretical and technical instruction within that framework. Every student is unique so I adjust my teaching style and methods/music taught to the needs of the student. I love the Suzuki Method for young students and adults alike. But I also refer to several fiddle methods including Craig Duncan's books, "American Fiddle Method" and "Kid Fiddle" for students who wish to learn fiddle tunes. I use the Suzuki Method throughout my teaching process. I think it is a great bases for teaching the techniques necessary to master the violin/viola. I also use various scale books (according to level) to teach note reading, sight reading, and basic music theory. Each student in my studio is required to work on a technique (scales, etc.) and one to two solo pieces. Along with this, majority of my students perform with orchestras in schools or the community.
