Nothing is more satisfying than seeing students passionately pursue and succeed in the musical goals they set for themselves. I encourage students to set smaller, individual goals that can help them reach the larger goals they may have. Each student is unique and all students deserve to learn in the mode or format that is most effective. For my beginning students, I will typically teach out of the Sound Innovations methods books and incorporate certain lessons from other method books as well. After a foundation has been established, I will introduce solo repertoire and begin to work toward recitals and local competitions. I introduce concepts from a variety of composers, styles, and periods, but I also want to encourage the child's love for music so I take into account what things they have heard and possibly want to learn. I just recently moved back to Colorado from NYC. Up until the day before I moved, I was working as a private music teacher for over 50 different students weekly, in-studio and in-home lessons, ages varying from as young as 2 to adult. Since I've returned, many of those students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime. I take a very personalized teaching style. Like I said in the My Methods section, I first find out the students favorite music, musicians, songs. Then I create lessons around that information. I am teaching the students chords, theory and structure while they are learning their favorite songs. And let me tell you, when students learn their first song, it is a rush that motivates them to learn more. I am very patient and work with students at their pace. Read More
