For beginning cello students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki method elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I started sharing my musical knowledge at the age of 14, when I was in Venezuela. I was a part of the biggest and most successful music education entity in the world. Its name is "El Sistema" and it is a nonprofit organization funded by the Venezuelan government. It has more than 300,000 students and it keeps on growing up despite the crisis in Venezuela. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or the Suzuki method. Once the student begins to grasp the fundamentals I slowly begin introducing solo repertoire. One of my main focuses for a beginning student is to get them playing a familiar piece very soon from when they start. For adults I use a similar method but I move a little faster. Once I was accepted into the UCF program under David Bjella, a busy schedule and the other cellists having more experience than me saw a sharp decline in my cello tutelage. It was supplanted however by the wide variety of classes and music education electives available to all the music majors, which I quickly signed up for to further my teaching abilities.
