For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or the Suzuki method. Once the student begins to grasp the fundamentals I slowly begin introducing solo repertoire. One of my main focuses for a beginning student is to get them playing a familiar piece very soon from when they start. For adults I use a similar method but I move a little faster. I have found in my years of teaching that it is even more crucial for and adult to play even a simple song soon after beginning. Read More

My teaching philosophy revolved around the idea that music should be fun and engaging. I like to take into account the students music preference and learn what specifically they want to get out of private lessons. Read More

I have been teaching Cello since I started in college and that has helped me understand how each individual has different needs and requires different methods. Read More

I found that adding those two instruments to my "repertoire of teaching" added to my joy of teaching and overall, my appreciation of music. In lessons, I enjoy taking a mixed approach. I try to appeal to the student by having fun and trying to figure out their style of playing (by ear, by notes, etc) while also sticking to painting the big picture of music - theory, technique, classical repertoire, etc. Read More
