My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. While studying, I was a flute teacher at the Music School Amarilis as well as teaching a few students that took classes at their home. My flute class consisted of a wide range of induviduals. I myself am a music student on my way to study at University of Alabama for a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have been privately instructing students of all ages for a full three years, starting when I was fifteen. I never turn down an opportunity to perform, and have played in multiple orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz bands, and marching bands.
