I work to create a fundamental relationship with my students to find out what their goals are, what specific level they are at currently, and where they want to take their talents. My initial lesson with the student is to learn what they do and do not know and to establish proper playing and hand techniques. I interact with the students to learn what they enjoy playing and what they want to accomplish as well. It is very important to me to make music fun and interesting for them to learn. I spend the majority of the lesson going over what they were assigned the previous week and then the last part of the lesson is going over what I am assigning for the next lesson and playing some of the music so they can hear what it is supposed to sound like. I am a passionate, self-motivated, energetic music instructor who loves work with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry and minored in Music Education. Within those studies, my primary instrument of focus was the trombone, however, along the way, I picked up and worked on different types of instruments, such as the flute, all of the low brass, piano, and my vocal ability. My passion for sharing knowledge begin during my time as high school tuba section leader, which led to Senior band president. Assisting my peers so we could sound better via musical corrections, this would build our confidence levels and the moral throughout the ensemble.
