For woodwind and brass players we can start by using the Essential Elements Books. This book includes warmups, etudes, and performance pieces. As an educator, I follow the John Hattie Model in which each lesson has a learning intention followed by success criteria. Though I feel it is important that each student progress at a pace that it is comfortable for them, I expect each student to put forth the effort. The lesson should not be the only practicing that the student accomplishes during the week. It is important to practice daily. The lessons should be a place to show off your hard work. My number one goal is to help my students accomplish their musical dreams, whether that be a classical pianist, a pop singer, the front person for a rock band, write songs or compose music for film, or just sing their favorite song of all time, whatever it takes, I will make sure that we get to the musical destination.
