Typically, the first lesson begins as a mock audition to engage the level that the student is at, no matter what age. After learning about the student's musical taste, I usually pick the music that the student will learn in our lessons, this especially goes for beginners. More intermediate and advanced students will get to choose what music they want to learn, accordingly to the lesson plan. I have many books and sheet music for all sorts of styles. Read More

I'm an enthusiastic and patient teacher who focuses on the student's need. No two lessons are ever the same. In our first lesson we will talk about where you are at and see where you want to get with your instrument. No matter what level you are on, or how serious you want to take it, we can craft a lesson plan that is perfect for you. I like to emphasize musicality over technicality, and we learn these things through examining the songs we love the most. Read More

I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. When teaching piano for beginners I like to pick the leaning material that we'll use based on the individual because we all learn differently and I like to keep it fun so the student stays interested. Additionally, some other books that I use with my drum set students are Syncopation by Ted Reed, The Art of Bop by John Riley, The Essence of Afro-Cuban Percussion, and The Essence of Brazillian Percussion by Ed Uribe. For more advanced students, I work on trancriptions of their favorite drummers, chart reading by playing with recordings or live musicians, improvisation over musical forms, and developing indivdual exercises for each student. I have a genuine passion for music, and love to share that with other people. My approach to teaching is to always to share in the enthusiasm for student's individuality of expression. I like to help students set their educational goals based off what their goals are as an artist. With clear and measurable progress, students will gain momentum and confidence to write or perform. Listening to what kinds of musical elements excite and inspire the student also guides my approach in helping them acheive those specific tools to express themselves. Read More
