Each lesson is personalized to the students needs. Their level, age and abilities, type of style that they are interested in learning, as well as how much practicing that they can commit to a week. I also like to incorporate music technology into teaching guitar. By using drum loops for instance and getting students to play chords and rhythm patterns along with loops, makes things more fun and dynamic! If a student wants to learn how to read, we will usually start with a simple method book as well as incorporating TAB into the lesson. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons almost 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio, several Piano Academies, and students' homes. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I also discovered that I had a talent for making my students feel very relaxed during their lessons. I began to go beyond just teaching from one page to the next and started to explore the creative process of creating interesting lessons that would challenge, encourage, and engage, as my teaching style would always be adjusted and adapted to perfectly fit my students' individual learning styles. Since relocating to Northern California in 1999, I have continued to work with a diverse range of ensembles and am currently teaching at two music studios, conducting clinics at local schools, and running a number of small and large group ensembles, including woodwind quintets, sax quartets, jazz combos, and experimental music groups. For beginning students, we typically begin with Essential Elements while discovering fundamentals of the instrument and getting a handle on reading bass clef and rhythms. This of course varies on a student's previous experience or comfort with reading music. We progress from there into appropriate etudes that can be quite melodic and entertaining to practice and then beginning solo repertoire, and advance from there. I always encourage students to have a goal piece in mind that they would like to play, especially my adult students, so we can frame our goals around that and set up a plan of action as we move forward.
