I began teaching privately about four years ago, and since then I have taught for a variety of well established institutions like the British International School and the Chicago School of Music. I have also worked as a teaching and outreach artist with Sarasota Opera and Old Capitol Opera. I love working with beginners, because I believe that music is for everyone, and it is important to find the right avenue for each individual. Read More

My teaching style is a balance between a music theory discipline mixed with what the student wants to learn of the instrument. I prefer and enjoy an environment that promotes expression of the student where we can learn from each other. I understand the uniqueness of each of my students and cater to their needs be it attention span, shyness, learning speeds, etc. Music is a discipline and a means for expression and that's what we will teach in my lessons. That progressed to teaching privately and in small groups as an upperclassman in high school for my band teacher and for extra money on the side. Read More

I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music. CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies). I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music. I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others. I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. Read More
