I gratuated from an urban school in Orange, NJ and was given the opportunity to attend Seton Hall University and graduate with a degree in Music Education on schloarships alone. Because of this, I understand what hard work means. You will find me to be an easy-going person, and one that possesses a love of music and an enjoyment of working with people. I believe I could help students develop their talents while fostering their passion for music.
For the past 4 years, I have been at Seton Hall University studying to become proficient in Contemporary Trumpet and to possess solid skills in the collection of all other brass and woodwind instruments in order to teach music. I am fully qualified and most of my teaching experience comes from my students and teaching music within my church. While student teaching I taught all instrumental music classes for grades 8 & 9.I also collaborated on curriculum and exam development, met with students upon request, graded all written work and oral playing tests, and created lesson plans. In church I chose songs for church services, plays, and other events while doubling as one of the main musical performers, playing both Trumpet and Electric Keyboard. I was responsible for planning and organizing weekly Sunday morning performances.
For beginning students, I start out with the Standard of Excellence Band Method book to learn intrumental basics along with basic music theory. Once the student is comfortable enough on the basics, he or she will be introduced to solo repertoire. For more developed students, work will be taken directly from Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet.
Throughout my college career, I have learned to teach students rather than babysit students in order to have them achieve their very best. Teaching is the organizing or guiding of a process in which students learn. Teaching is there so students can learn. Babysitting is simply watching the students without them necessarily learning anything. I strongly believe music teachers should possess a love of music and an enjoyment of working with people. Both of these attributes help one effectively teach music.
