Overview:
Singing and music has been part of my life since I can remember and I get so much joy helping people achieve their goals. I am a passionate and enthusiastic actress, singer, dancer, pianist, and teaching artist here in Chicago. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Musical Theater program at the University of the Arts, where I realized my love of teaching while tutoring struggling music theory students. I have been performing and teaching ever since I graduated in various musicals and plays throughout the city.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching when I was in middle school when I got the opportunity to assistant direct theater workshops in my town. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients. In college, I tutored struggling music theory and piano students and felt it was the perfect way to use my enthusiasm for music in a positive way beyond teaching. Teaching has helped define who I am as a person and as an artist. I love the opportunity to inspire those less experienced than me and I hope I am able to give people the confidence and the technique they need to succeed!
METHODS USED
My lessons are about technique and applying the technique to repertoire. I spend about a third of the lesson on specific technique work and I always encourage students to bring in their own material that we can work on as well. I of course always have songs to suggest and I cater to each individual student's needs. If you need a high song, I'll find a high one. If you need a pop song, I'll find a pop song. You will get excellent vocal and piano technique from me, but you will also learn to have fun and appreciate the ease and relaxation of singing and playing piano.
LESSON STYLE
It's very important to me that you come out of each lesson feeling proud of what you've accomplished. Of course some days are going to be harder than other days, but I always want you to feel encouraged and nurtured and aware of your progress. I have a very good balance in my lessons of supporting the student, but also pushing the student to his or her highest potential. I always remain encouraging and warm. I will push you where you need to go, but I will always be on your side and will never make you feel bad about yourself in any way.
