I started playing the violin when I was 7 years old and changed to viola at age 15. I am a passionate instructor who does best for understanding and enjoying the music. I've participated in 4+ orchestras, film music, contemporary music. I have 2+ year of teaching experience, played the viola over 10 years. While I was in orchestras, I volunteered at hospitals, though some people aren't able to communicate, they could feel and enjoy the music with me. The volunteering experience at the hospital was big turning point of my life, I totally believe that music has the power to change lives.
I taught students from youngest age 6 to oldest age 16. I participated in orchestras as a principal violist, and few festivals in England and Germany. While I was participating Edinberg festival In U.K, I had chance to share my music with young musicians and people. In the U.S I was in American Youth Symphony orchestra, I performed Philip Glass's orchestral piece, and film music at Royce Hall In UCLA. I am currently working at Biola University in La Mirada as a Violist for their quartet and orchestra.
My goal for lessons is not just progress. I would like to let students know how to enjoy music and the way music works. I have teaching experience in Korea and the U.S with kids age between 6 to 15. Young musicians have hard time to focus in a long period of time and practicing their own. To solve the issue I record videos for their assignments such as scales or any musical pieces they need to learn, so they can play along with them. I am a very passionate teacher, and I want my students not just learning during lesson time, but also have something to practice along in their own practice time.
I would like to inform little of music theory as needed for better understanding of music. Mainly I would focus on letting students make their goal and achieve it. The way I teach students is starting with setting a goal for each lesson time. After setting a goal, I will organize time to spend to go through anything we need to work on together. I will assign my student to read next part until we meet next lesson. For their own practice time, students will have a recording that they can play along for efficient practice.
