I have been playing viola for almost 20 years and each day I grow more and more passionate for my instrument. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and began my musical studies on viola at the age 4. I graduated from Baylor University in 2013. While at Baylor University I was Principal of the Baylor Symphony and played with the Waco Symphony, Brazos Valley Symphony, and the San Angelo Symphony orchestras. I now attend the University of Maryland pursing my Masters degree in Viola Performance.
I have been teaching violin and viola for the last six years. My main goal is to make sure that student is having a great time learning how to play an instrument while making sure the student understands good practice habits. I want to make sure that the student has fun in their lessons and I make it my main priority. If the student wants to learn jazz, I am well versed in jazz and can teach jazz. If the student wants to learn a popular song, I am able to arrange any song to the students skill level because learning a new instrument is fun. I love for students to be excited to learn a new instrument and I love teaching.
I teach a predominantly Suzuki as I learned with the Suzuki method and I am trained as a Suzuki instructor. I don't completely immerse my students with the Suzuki method and while learning how to play by ear, I teach students how to read music so that they are able to compose their own music.
I really enjoy watching my students grow in skill and passion for their instrument. I believe in letting my students know how much they are improving, and emphasizing their growth each week. I am inspired by my students and I believe that my students are inspired by me!
My son plays beautifully under her tutelage. She has been working with him through middle school orchestra. She is an excellent musician, a kind soul and works well with children. My daughter is starting lessons this week to prepare for middle school orchestra. She is very excited! Ms. R. is a joy to work with. We are very happy and blessed to work with her.
Ms. Shabria R. is excellent! My 8th grade special needs son plays beautifully under her tutelage. My 6th grade neurotypical daughter begins lessons this week. She is beyond excited. Ms. R. is an excellent musician and a kind soul. We are very happy and blessed to work with her.
We love Shabria! She is an excellent teacher. She is skilled, encouraging, and very competent.
I think she's a great teacher. If you have troubles with your music she goes over it with you, she gives you viola exercises to improve your skills, and overall she's a fun and relatable teacher.
