Overview:
I am an instructor who loves working with students of all ages to help them find their love of and passion for music. In 1995, I graduated Boston University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. Performing all over the United States and Canada with various theatre, orchestral, and chamber ensembles has given me the opportunity to do what I love and meet many people who share a joy of music. It is my belief that each student has their own unique learning style and it is my job to help them reach their fullest potential.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to just before I started college, as I began teaching lessons part time in 1991. I believe that students begin playing an instrument because they think it is fun. My goal is to have lessons be fun all while establishing a good core of basics to build upon. I do this by learning about each student individually and catering my lessons to their likes/dislikes. This can be done by learning all types of music; classical, pop/rock, showtunes, country, etc. My goal is to have students be excited about their music lessons!
METHODS USED
For my beginning students who are children, I may start them with Hal Leonards Essential Elements and/or the Rubank Method. Once they begin to learn the basics and and can grasp the fundamentals, I can begin to introduce solo pieces. For adults, I try to learn about what level the student is and what their interests are so that I can cater my lessons accordingly. Again, it is important for children and adults that the learning remain fun so that they want to practice each day!
LESSON STYLE
Each student is a unique individual. No two students are the same, nor will any lesson be. I use positive encouragement and reinforcement when communicating to my students. This means identifying what they might be doing correctly, as well as what needs improvement in a supportive way. My goal is to build confidence and self-esteem in their music and life. I look forward to being a part of their musical journey and hope to make it as rewarding as possible.
