Overview:
I'm a passionate teacher who understands and cares for the success of my students. I treat each students differently as everyone learns in a different manner. I began taking classical piano lessons at the age of four and then began learning the guitar at age ten. I was mostly self taught on guitar and took a developed a deep understanding of music theory and a love for the guitar itself. After deciding to go back to school to pursue a career in music, I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies.
EXPERIENCE
I have had the pleasure of teaching students for over 10 years. My students have been of all ages and have consisted of all types of experience levels. These students gave me the experience and helped me grow into a patient and well rounded instructor. My goal is for the student to progress and enjoy themselves while truly understanding what they are learning. I began teaching in my junior year of high school. A majority of my students were my peers in school and I quickly became known as the guitar instructor. Now besides for guitar I teach music theory and piano up to an intermediate skill levels.
METHODS USED
My methods differ depending on a students age and experience level. For the younger students who are just beginning their journey we will learn out of Hal Leonard's books for guitar or Piano Adventures for piano students. As a student progresses we will begin to take the learning outside of these books and more to music theory, technique, and to the application of these practices onto the instrument. For younger students I will make the lesson more fun and interactive, keeping the lesson positive and not viewing it as a chore.
LESSON STYLE
My goal in teaching is to make sure my student reaches their fullest potential. If something that I'm doing isn't working or getting through to the student I will make sure to adapt and find the right way to engage them. Positive encouragement helps a student grow in the healthiest way. My students understand, especially the more experienced ones, understand the importance of putting work into their craft. I am there to give you the tools for success. I will help you refine those tools so you can perform at the highest level possible.
