Overview:
I am a passionate, energetic , and motivated piano instructor. I have been teaching since 2009. I love teaching young beginners who are ages 4 and up. I love seeing them succeed and enjoy playing piano.
I see many problems in piano lessons for young children, so I not only focus on learning the fundamentals, including reading notes and counting rhythm, but I also focus on the child so they can be more motivated to learn and play.
I also do recitals for my students so they have a chance to show off their musical skills and gain more confidence.
EXPERIENCE
I am always interested in teaching children, especially teaching music. I have been teaching piano since 2009 and one of my teaching philosophies is student-centered teaching method. I design appropriate lessons and curriculums for different levels and ages of students. Some of my students have asked to play songs from peppa pig, Bluey, sponge bob, or Disney movies and movies, including but not limited to Let It Go, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park. My students are also encouraged to have recitals every year.
METHODS USED
I encourage students a lot and make the lessons fun for them, for younger students, they play nursery rhymes that they know how to sing, so it keeps them motivated, for teenagers, they are more interested in pop music, so we sometimes work on the pop songs they want to play. For beginning students who are children from age 5 to 8, I include games to help them learn to play. Once they are more advanced, they will start playing popular nursery rhymes, repertoires for performances, theory, and techniques. For teenagers and adults, I start with Alfred Adult lesson book and I discuss with them what are some classical pieces and/or popular songs they want to play in the future and when they are ready to move on, we would start working on those. Overall, I always keep the lessons fun and engaged in every level and ages.
LESSON STYLE
Every student needs to feel successful. I keep students motivated and encourage them by setting goals at each lesson and make them understand that practicing is necessary every day. I also help them to come up with planning so they don’t struggle practicing during the week on their own. During the lessons, I acknowledge their accomplishments because it helps students eager to learn. I believe all the extrinsic and intrinsic are important in learning and keeping it fun, engaging, and safe will help students to gain musical skills.
