BA Point Park University, Musical Theatre

Awards:

2017- Honors Graduate Award Point Park University

2017- Joined national tour with Missoula Children's Theatre Company

Overview:
I am a passionate and motivated musician and music teacher and I absolutely adore sharing my love of music with my students! I graduated from Point Park University with my BA in Musical Theatre in 2017, and joined the national tour of "Peter & Wendy" with Missoula Children's Theatre for a few months before returning to my hometown in California to teach. I recently made the leap to New York City and have the opportunity to teach here, a job that I am so privileged to have! I look forward to helping my students achieve their goals and nurture their love of music!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates all the way back to early high school, when I taught piano lessons to kids in my local neighborhood. In college, I continued teaching as a part time job while at home during the summers, and when I returned home from touring, I taught at several studios in the Sacramento area, teaching private voice and piano, and classes I designed curriculum for, such as Musical Theatre for Beginners, "We Sing Disney", and Singing for Ages 8-12. I currently teach Piano/Uke/Violin with Blue Balloon Songwriting as well as running my own studio in Brooklyn.
METHODS USED
For beginning and intermediate students on piano, I generally teach out of Piano Adventures as a supplement, but teach other songs the student requests. For voice lessons, I tailor my supplemental book teaching to the students individual learning abilities, as well as learning songs they are passionate about. My philosophy on learning music is that a students should NEVER play a song that they hate! I tailor my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter what their skill level.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style nurtures the students love of the instrument while tossing in technical details along the way! Especially when beginning a new instrument, acknowledging goals that a student has, or songs they would like to learn to perform is essential to helping that initial eagerness to continue throughout lessons, and to help the student feel accomplished in their instrument. Together, the student and I will set realistic goals for them in their instrument to complete songs, technical aspects, warm ups, etc. and I will help them to achieve those goals.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
