I am extremely passionate about music and playing my instrument. I received my BA in Viola Performance in 2018 and have been an incredibly active performer and teacher since then. In 2019 I had the pleasure of playing in three different orchestras in Europe and also performed in an intensive summer music festival in Prague, playing in such venues as the Estates Theater and the Rudolfinum, home of the Czech Philharmonic. I currently teach viola/violin at my old high school every week and I absolutely love doing it.
I have been teaching students viola/violin both privately and in group settings since I was in high school. I did a teaching internship for a year at the middle school level for a year while in college as well as running all the viola sectionals for my university orchestra as the principal violist for 4 years. After graduating with my bachelors, I did an internship shadowing the high school orchestra director in my college town for 6 months and taught many of their students privately as well. As of now I teach viola sectionals at my old high school and tutor students privately on a weekly basis.
For beginning students I like to begin with learning scales, becoming aware of the circle of fifths, introducing different types of bow strokes, bow control, and other essentials along with simple Suzuki book solo pieces. Once the student has progressed a little further, I will introduce more difficult solo repertoire that I feel will help the student’s techniques while also showcasing their abilities. For adults, I will try to find out what music the student is interested in and work with them in that way, in order to keep them engaged and enjoy playing music!
Nothing is more rewarding than to see a student’s passion and love for music grow as they see and hear their skills evolve. I encourage students to progress in their skills/techniques/musical knowledge at their own pace. I hope to pass on my passion and love for music onto my students by setting realistic goals catered to each student, starting with their very first lesson. I love to acknowledge their accomplishments along the way and push them to want to be the best musician they can be. I tailor each lesson to the students’ wants, needs, and any specific musical goals they have in mind.
